Maximum Print Resolution
The Epson Stylus Pro 3800 - 17" A2 offers unparalleled output quality with the highest resolution available at 2880dpi (horizontal) by 1440dpi (vertical). This has been realised through the synergistic effects of precision dot–control technology that discharges a minimum dot size of 3.5pl and a mechanical structure that reinforces printing precision.

For the professional and advanced photographer, the printer's high resolution capabilities ensure photographic prints that exhibit incredibly fine detail and nuances such as shadow and highlight. In the proofing environment, the Stylus Pro 3800 - 17" A2's high resolution ensures proofs are a precise and exact presentation of the final printed product.

Active Meniscus Control
One of the key factors in achieving absolute clarity in prints is precision in the ink droplet formation process. By utilising Micro Piezo™ technology, as opposed to a thermal or "bubble" system, the print head is capable of controlling the curvature (meniscus) of the upper surface of the ink column at the print head nozzles. This Meniscus Control technology enables the Epson Stylus Pro 3800 - 17" A2 printer to deliver sharp, accurately placed spherical ink droplets on to the print media. With accurate ink placement comes the ability to create prints that exhibit detail so fine that it exceeds the quality delivered by more expensive printing devices.

1 Inch Wide Print Head
 Featuring a one–inch print head with 180 x 8 ink nozzle horizontal and vertical configuration, the Stylus Pro 3800 - 17" A2 has an enormous speed advantage over many of its contemporaries. With nearly double the number of nozzles per colour featured in other models, the print head has the ability to cover a greater printable area for each pass, resulting in a dramatically improved print speed yet maintaining outstanding print quality.

Variable Sized Ink Droplet Technology
 Just as with other members of the Epson Stylus Pro 800 series, the Stylus Pro 3800 - 17" A2 delivers all the benefits and advantages of Epson's advanced Variable–Sized Droplet Technology (VSDT). With this technology, the Micro Piezo print head produces several different sizes of ink droplet depending on the image type and media used; controlling the electric pulse applied to the Piezo element.

This new generation of MicroPiezo™ print head improves this Variable Sized Droplet function to enable firing of high density Epson UltraChrome K3 Ink. This technology not only improves image quality, but also optimises print speed.

Micro Piezo™ Print Head
A key technology in Epson's worldwide inkjet printing leadership, Epson's Micro Piezo™ print head is designed to extend significantly print head life and deliver the highest image quality possible.

Unlike thermal inkjet technology, Epson's micro piezo technology does not "cook" the ink to eject the ink droplet but instead applies an electric charge to the piezo element. This electrical charge swiftly changes the form of the chamber plate creating a "pull, push, pull" motion which rapidly brings the ink through to the ink chamber and then out through the print head nozzle with superb accuracy onto the media.

Featuring Variable Sized Droplet Technology which achieves the highest possible print speed without sacrificing image quality, Epson's Micro Piezo print heads also provide users with the following key benefits;

Eliminates the hassle of frequently replacing print heads, allowing users to consistently print for longer, without continuous interruptions
Epson Micro Piezo Print Heads do not "cook" the ink like thermal inkjet technology, resulting in greater colour consistency print after print
Epson Micro Piezo Print Heads precisely control the surface of the ink (meniscus) for accurate dot placement, shape and size. Eliminating ink "over-spray" which can cause unwanted smaller droplets to appear on the paper and affect image quality.

PAPER & INK

‡ The printer ships with full ink cartridges and part of the ink from the first cartridges is used for priming the printer. Yields vary considerably based on images printed, print settings, paper type, frequency of use and temperature.

When an ink cartridge needs replacing, you cannot continue copying or printing even if the other cartridges do not need replacing.

Leave the cartridge that needs replacing installed in the printer until you have obtained a replacement. Otherwise the ink remaining in the print head nozzles may dry out.

To ensure ongoing print quality and trouble free operation, a variable amount of ink remains in cartridge after the “Replace Cartridge” indicator comes on.

Warning to Epson printer owners. Many well known third party companies claim their inkjet printing papers are compatible with all Epson inkjet printers. Epson has reports from many customers who have used third party's paper and have been very disappointed with the results. When the same customers have changed to genuine Epson paper, they have been amazed and pleased with the colour and quality of their prints. Epson recommends that you do not use any non genuine printing papers if you want to get the best results from your Epson printer. Epson printers are very carefully tuned to ensure Epson inks and Epson's patented MicroPiezo™ printhead produce the best quality prints using carefully selected Epson paper.
